The Belle Rococo Dress is the perfect special occasion frock for that little princess in your life! Named for the late 18th century French artistic movement, this dress embraces the ornately feminine style that was popular during the era. The dreamy princess style bodice with the pointed “centrifice” at the bottom center is elasticized in back with ¼” elastic. A sash is woven through a series of loops sewn into the back center bodice seams, which adds to the classic princess appeal (and also gives the bodice a custom fit). There are two super twirly semi-circle style skirts. The curved overskirt is designed to expose the double ruffled underskirt in front. An optional waistband helps define the bottom of the fully lined bodice and provides contrast between the bodice and skirt. An optional bow completes the fairytale look. But wait, there ‘s more! To emphasize the fullness of this tea length dress, a separate pettiskirt with tulle ruffle can be made to wear underneath! Easy instructions are included at the end of the tutorial.
Looking for a quicker project? It is also possible to sew a simplified version of this dress by omitting one of the skirts and the ruffles. You can even sew an adorable princess style top/tunic with an attached pettiskirt!
This project is appropriate for an intermediate sewist. Sizes 6-12M through girl’s size 10 are included.
