The Ruthie’s Picnic Dress is a Foofoo Threads pattern from 2013 that has just received a major overhaul! The tutorial and pattern pieces have been completely redone, re-tested and several new improvements have been added. New features include five additional sizes, newly drafted pattern pieces that can be printed in layers (allowing you to print only the sizes you need) and also a new top/blouse option.

The Ruthie's Picnic Dress is an adorable vintage style dress with lots of fun details to choose from! The fully lined bodice has an optional bib applique to which buttons can be added for a tuxedo style look. The adorable bodice ruffles travel from front bodice to back and can be made as single or double ruffles. The bodice closes in back with buttons…or if you prefer you may add sew-in or pound-in snaps. There are two gathered skirts, an underskirt and overskirt. The underskirt is trimmed with a ruffle and the overskirt is finished with a simple folded hem or the sewing trim of your choice. The overskirt can be embellished with chevron shaped, bow trimmed pockets or a “ruched” ruffle. A placket is created in the back skirt for ease in dressing. For a simpler project, it is also possible to omit one of the skirts. There is even a new single layered top/blouse length to choose from! To complete the look, a waistband and two generous ties form a bow in the back. This project is appropriate for an intermediate sewist. Includes girl’s sizes 3-6m to 12. Happy sewing!
